Can WBE (Women Business Enterprise) Certification Skyrocket Your Promotional Products Sales?

May 12, 2009 | Filed Under Sales, Uncategorized | No Comments

Did you know that major corporations and government organizations are actively seeking women-owned businesses as their vendors? They have entire entire diversity departments set up to scout for companies that have obtained WBE (Women Business Enterprise) status.

Perhaps you’re a woman business owner or independent contractor in the promotional products industry who has considered getting WBE certification for your business but were not sure if you qualified. Or, maybe you looked into the process but felt it was too time consuming and overwhelming.

I can tell you from actual experience in my own promotional products business that getting WBE certification was one of the smartest things I ever did. It took months to obtain the status,  and much time and documentation,  but my business revenues dramatically increased the years after I obtained my WBE status.

Want to learn how you can qualify and start dramatically increasing your sales?

What’s Your Perfect Promotional Products Niche?

Many years ago, when I first start selling promotional products I thought everyone was a good prospect for me, but it wasn’t until I concentrated on a niche market that my business quickly doubled and became one of the fastest growing companies in my region.

As a business coach, my niche is working with promotional products distributor owners and sales representatives. I teach them proven strategies to get more business, choice clients and make more money. I encourage the people I coach to develop one or more of their own niche markets and focus their energies there for maximum profitability.

Here are 5 ways to define your promotional products niche market:

  • The industries you serve ( health-care,  education, etc.)
  • The products you most enjoy selling ( apparel, writing instruments, etc.)
  • The problems you solve ( fast service, fulfillment etc.)
  • The programs you market ( safety, motivation etc.)
  • The demographic you target ( seniors, teens etc.)

You can sell outside of your niche market, this is just where you will concentrate the majority of your marketing efforts.

Once you’ve decided on a niche, learn as much as possible about it by visiting related web sites, subscribing to magazines and joining organizations. The idea is to be as visible as possible in your niche.

Going Beyond The Cure

October 7, 2008 | Filed Under Uncategorized | No Comments

By Rosalie Marcus, http://www.promobizwoman.com

I usually confine my blog posts to promotional products business success tips, but the epidemic of breast cancer in our society was too important not to write about, especially when all women can now do something to help eradicate it.

How would you like to be instrumental in finding a cure for breast cancer? You can. “That’s the goal of The Army of Women.

“The Love/Avon Army of Women offers a revolutionary new opportunity for YOU to partner with research scientists to move us beyond a cure.

Breast cancer has been around for decades, but it does not have to be our future. We can be the generation that eliminates breast cancer by identifying what causes this disease and stopping it before it starts. This is your chance to be part of the research that will end breast cancer. Sign up for your sister, mother, daughter, granddaughter, best friend, and the woman you met last week.

Help us eradicate breast cancer once and for all. Join the Army of Women today!”

What’s Your Favorite Promotional Product?

June 5, 2008 | Filed Under Uncategorized | No Comments

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the SAAGNY Business Women’s Breakfast where attendees got to share their favorite promotional products, both old and new. You know, the product that always get you orders. The product that’s easy to sell and everyone seems to like.

I thought it would be fun for us to share our favorites on this blog.

Here’s my all time favorite promotional product and best seller: Post-it notes. These can be the real deal or a generic copy. I’ve sold hundreds of thousands of them. I’ve used 10sheet pads as invoice stuffers with a thank you for the order on the top sheet. I’ve used cube pads as a self-promotion to leave with clients.

These may not be the most exciting product out there, but everyone uses them and I’ve found them easy to sell.

So what’s your all time favorite product? I would love to hear from you.

All thoughtful replies are welcome!

12 Women Working Smarter Strategies, By Rosalie Marcus, http://www.promobizwoman.com

  • Create a powerful vision for your business. Where are you now? Where would you like to be in 1, 3 and 5 years? What is working in your business? What isn’t working? What needs to change?

  •  Identify you choice clients. Choose whom you want to do business with and whom you don’t. Selling is like dating. Choose clients that are a good fit for what you have to offer.

  • Focus your time on the high-payoff activities. Do the hardest thing first. Plan enough time for yourself and those you love every week.

  • Prioritize your accounts according to how much they are worth. Spend your time accordingly.

  • Do, delegate or dump. What can you delegate that someone else can do better? Do what you do best get others to do what you can’t.

  • Make it easy to do business with your company. Explain everything, customers don’t know what you know. What can you do that will make it easier for your customers to do business with you?

  • Follow up fast. She who hesitates is lost. Follow up on conversations within 24 to 48 hours. Follow up in a variety of ways.

  • Pay attention to the financials. This is a profit driven business. Know your expenses, receivables and payables. Consistently seek to increase your profit margins.

  • Form alliance with complementary businesses. See how you can refer business to each other. Printers, graphic artists, meeting planners are good partners.

  • Be proactive about referrals. Acknowledge all referrals. Consider a gift for referral program. Ask your accounts to introduce to you to others in their company and to their vendors who may use promotions.

  • Have a consistent marketing strategy. Pick two or three effective things and do them consistently. Practice what you preach. Communicate your message with promotional products.

  • Expect Success! Script what you want to happen ahead of time. Keep a success journal. Surround yourself with positive people. Get a mentor or coach.

What strategies are you using to work smarter in your business? All thoughtful comments are welcome.
